SILENT AND LISTEN

Peace Education Reaction Paper “Silent and Listen are Spell with the Same Letters” Every time we are having our Peace Education subject, I’m so excited to come in class because I’m hitting two goals at the same time. One is to learn more on how to have and attain peace and two is to listen in Sir Chua’s quotable quotes. For me, when he starts reflecting, it’s like a church ambiance and I even forget that we’re in classroom. Maybe that’s the reason why I have a perfect attendance in his class. Peace Education subject give us every meeting something to ponder and reflect on. I really like and appreciate those quotable quotes and I can easily relate to the situation or examples given by Mr. Chua. Every time he gives us quotable quote he guarantee that everyone of us understand it and for me, he looks like a priest who preach us and make us realize how to live a better life and to get peace through this quotable quotes. One of the quotable quote that I really like and gives me a better realization is: “Silent and Listen are Spell with the Same Letters” It’s just a simple logical quote for others but for me, I appreciate how this two words affects my personal perception in life. Silent and Listen are two words with same alphabets. I’ve noticed lately that listening is slowly becoming a long lost skill, but that if you do take the time to really listen, you learn a lot and people appreciate you more. I remember what Mr. Chua told us that when his mom is telling him to do something he eagerly listen to it. He said that “If I hear it once, I do it” simply because he listens and give focus and understand whatever her mom told him to do. With this, I realized how important to “listen with your heart” on things and to take time to be silent, to meditate to have internal dialogue. In moments of silence, I realize that you are reconnecting to your source of pure awareness. As a Mass Comm. Student, this is important because in communicating, both of the speakers should have time to talk, to be silent and to listen in order for them to reach their goal and understand each other. Silence gives us idea to pay attention to our inner life. It can help us to be guided by our intuition rather than imposed interpretation of others of what is or isn't good for ourselves. Also by listening to myself and being silent, I can know myself more and have time to do a self reflection. If only everyone and everybody knows how to listen and to be silent, I guess, maybe, everything in this world will be fine and it’s not possible to achieve peace through understanding and accepting each side’s perception and idea. Perhaps that’s the clue that when you are silent, you are better able to listen.
